I can't believe this is my last night here on the island! I can't describe it but it feels like I've been here for months one moment and only hours the next. This has been an experience I will never forget. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to be with amazing people who love and support me. Today we had to present our group projects to the class and I was so stressed about it. However, when I got up to speak I just felt this rush of love from everyone. Everyone had a smile on their face and you could just tell they cared. Everyone did a fantastic job, and it was cool to see how our projects would intertwine. Afterwards there was a mini "award" ceremony where our professors gave us marine toys. I was awarded the "comic relief" of the group. My toy was a cute little seal :) I don't think I have mentioned this before but the food here is absolutely! It's going to be hard to adjust to not having delicious feeling food for every meal. After lunch we went out into the beech area and played hide and go seek. I was the second to last person to get caught...but I kind of cheated apparently because I accidentally "passed" the boundary where we weren't suppose to be haha. I bought some pretty cool souvenirs today at the gift shop. Going to look so cool when I come back with a t shirt that says Heron Island Research Station ;) I also got some New Zealand candy and it was suppose to be white chocolate with caramel but it tasted a bit like root beer. At the moment I am just doing laundry and getting my stuff packed :'( However I can't wait for my roadtrip to Brisbane afterwards!
Favorite quotes of the day:
1)Dylan:'Hey!Do you want to play kick the can?
Me:"How do you play?"
Dylan:"...you kick the can"
2)Tia: "So Hanna what do ferret toes look like?"
me: *tried to put two of my toes folded down*
Tia:Why is your eye twitching?!?!?
Me: "oh man there's raisins in this dessert!"
Bryce: "Do you not like raisins?"
Me: " No, I do but I had a bad experience where I ate a 2 lb bag of raisins and it kind of destroyed me"
Bryce: *look of horror* "How can you accidentally eat 2 lbs of raisins
Me:"You just keep grabbing handfuls until the bag is empty"
Me:"Hey! Do you want to see what I look like with red hair?"
Tia:" Heck yeah!"
Tia:"Omg!! You look like that girl from Harry Potter!
Me:"EMMA WATSON!?!?! :D"
Tia:"Nah, you look like Ginny!"
If you don't know Emma Watson is like my freakin hero so I was really excited to think I looked like her. Don't you see the resemblance??hahha....jk :'(
Well today is the last day to do our group project, and I feel like I've been glued to the computer lab chair for most of the day. I had a lot of fun doing this project, but it's definitely taken a lot of time to do it. I kind of got distracted and started looking up ferrets. I saw some pictures of marbled polecats and they are FREAKIN ADORABLE!!!! Like they look like they have a ferret head and it's wearing a spotted leopard costume. Earlier this morning I went for a run through parts of the island. I am so out of shape haha. Last time I ran was when I was a baby...just kidding! But it felt like that. I have two more days before I leave this wonderful island and it kind of makes me sad. However, it's going to be awesome because I will be traveling with some people in my group to Brisbane. ROADTRIP!!
Well, I should probably be heading to bed and getting my beauty sleep in preaparation of my presentation. Wish me luck!
I forgot to mention this but yesturday I played this game with Dylan and Camp. We played this rock, paper, scissors version where if you lost the round other person slapped your hand really hard. Well....lets just say I suck at that game hard core. I don't think I won one round. My hand is alittle tender from that game haha. In the morning Dylan and I went out to the reef for the last time to collect our low tide data. It was much easier to maneuver in the water since it was low tide. We were able to witness an egret walk on top of the coral and snag up some of the fish that were hiding in the coral. We also saw two epaulette sharks, they are common predators in reefs during low tides. They are cute little creatures. Most of the day just consisted of working and preparing for our presentation. I took a quick run in the evening because why not. It's kind of scary running on the island. I always think there is something that is going to pop out in the trees and something did come out of the trees but it was just a bird.... lets just say that it gave me a heart attack and I ran so fast that when I stopped running I threw up. Melissa taught me how to bachata but I can't move my hips like hers. She makes it so easy! Freakin Colombians and their amazing abiliity to tan and dance. I showed her how to dance to Get Low but she was not impressed with me moves. So earlier I went and got some chocolate from the vending machine and I was eating it while I was laying down. Well I guess some crumbs fell on my neck and it melted and got stuck there. An hour ago someone pointed it out that I had chocolate my neck....awksauce. Today has been a chill and peaceful day though. Trying to savour every moment I have on this island because I leave in a few days. TIll next time.
